World's best password hackers gather in Oslo, Dec 3-5


Bergen/Oslo, 27. November 2012
The world's best password hackers gather in Oslo on December 3-5 to speak & participate at Passwords^12, a 3-day conference ONLY about passwords & PIN codes. This is the first and only conference dedicated to research in an area that affects us all on a daily basis. The conference brings together an "all-star" team of international researchers, hackers, and security professionals. The conference aims to increase security, while simultaneously keeping and improving usability aspects for everyday users.



Among our speakers is Joan Daemen, the man now referred to as «the Usain Bolt in the world of cryptography». He was one of the inventors of Rijndael, which became AES, the encryption algorithm that protects data in most types of systems & programs all over the world.

The conference features speakers from Norway, Finland, Russia, Germany, France, Belgium, UK, Canada, & USA. Speakers are from various academic, personal, & commercial organisations. The conferences is held at the Department of Informatics, University in Oslo. Main orrganizer is Per Thorsheim (Bergen), with professor Audun Jøsang at the university as the local organizer.

About Per Thorsheim
Per Thorsheim works as an independent security adviser in Bergen. He's been researching passwords for more than 12 years, and is internationally recognized for his work in this area. He was quoted world-wide when he told the world about the Linkedin breach on Jun 6th, 2012. He was 1 of 3 finalists for the Rosing IT Security award in 2012. Previous employers include EVRY, Telenor, PwC, Heath Comm og TV2.

About professor Audun Jøsang
Audun Jøsang joined Oslo University and the UNIK graduate center in 2008 and moved to the Oslo University Department of Informatics in 2011. Prior to that he was Associate Professor at QUT, research leader of the Security Unit at DSTC in Brisbane, worked in the telecommunications industry for Alcatel in Belgium and for Telenor in Norway. He was also Associate Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He has a Master's in Information Security from Royal Holloway College, University of London, and a PhD from NTNU in Norway. He is a CISSP and CISM with broad knowledge and experience in information security.
